About Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment

Lowe Mill's story begins in 1901, when it was established as a cotton mill. For decades, it served as a bustling hub for textile production, employing hundreds of workers and fueling the local economy. The iconic red-brick building stands as a testament to Huntsville's industrial past, with its striking architecture and towering smokestacks.

In the late 1980s, a group of visionary artists recognized the potential of the abandoned Lowe Mill and embarked on a mission to transform it into a space for artistic expression. Through their relentless efforts, the mill was reborn as an arts center in 2001.

Today, Lowe Mill is the largest privately owned arts facility in the United States, housing over 200 working studios, galleries, and performance spaces. From painters and sculptors to photographers and musicians, the mill is a melting pot of creative energy, allowing artists to showcase their talents and engage with the community.
